01Dhenkanal at a glance
Rooftop solar, solar pumps and water kiosks for the Dhenkanal plateau
Dhenkanal lies inland between Cuttack and Angul, a largely plateau district with discontinuous hill ranges along its southern border and the Brahmani as its main river. NH-55 links it to Cuttack and Sambalpur. Its three subdivisions, Dhenkanal, Hindol and Kamakhyanagar, take in eight blocks, the Dhenkanal municipality and the Kamakhyanagar, Bhuban and Hindol NACs.
Farming here depends largely on rain: CEEW estimates that about 90% of the net sown area is unirrigated, and the district’s 2023 Heat Wave Action Plan counted 13,114 tube wells, none of them solar-powered. Industry is concentrated at Meramandali in Odapada block, where Tata Steel runs an integrated steel plant with a thermal power plant.
Rooftop adoption is building too. TPCODL routed Odisha’s first Solar Rath awareness vehicle through Dhenkanal in July 2026, and HELLOCON plans every Dhenkanal installation, from a village pump to a town terrace, from our head office in Bhubaneswar.

02Solutions for Dhenkanal
Solar for Dhenkanal’s farms, homes and the Meramandali belt
With most of the district’s farmland rainfed, solar pumping and drinking-water systems are a priority, alongside rooftop, commercial and solar lighting systems.

Surface and submersible solar pumps for borewells, dug wells and farm ponds, sized after a survey of the water source, the head and the area to be irrigated.Solar water kiosks and dual pumps
Solar-powered drinking-water points and dual pumps for villages, schools and public places in a district where no tube well ran on solar in 2023.Home rooftop solar with ventilated mounting
PM Surya Ghar systems for houses in Dhenkanal town, Kamakhyanagar, Bhuban and Hindol, mounted with an air gap behind the modules for the plateau’s summer heat.Commercial and industrial rooftop
Rooftop and on-grid systems for ancillary units, workshops, warehouses and commercial buildings along NH-55 and around Meramandali.Solar street lights and high masts

03TPCODL connection
Application and metering steps for a TPCODL connection
Check the utility on your electricity bill first; a district name alone does not identify every connection. For a TPCODL household connection, use the national portal together with the utility’s current instructions.
Dhenkanal is supplied through TPCODL’s Dhenkanal Electrical Division in the Dhenkanal Electrical Circle, with rural substations at Bhuban, Hindol and Kamakhyanagar among others. The office printed on your bill is the one that processes a Dhenkanal net-metering application.
- Register the consumer connection on the official PM Surya Ghar portal and follow its application, feasibility and load-related instructions.
- Check the vendor available for that application and agree the equipment, installation and metering responsibilities in writing.
- Complete the required installation records and coordinate the utility’s inspection, meter arrangements and commissioning.
- Retain the commissioning documents and follow the official assistance-claim process. Approval and payment timings depend on the authorities.
04Plateau heat
Rooftop solar built for Dhenkanal’s 48 °C summers
Dhenkanal’s own Heat Wave Action Plan records 48 °C in 2023. Average rainfall is 1,428.8 mm over about 73 rainy days, so the dry months on a Dhenkanal roof are long.
On a Dhenkanal terrace the priorities are airflow behind the modules, an inverter kept out of direct afternoon sun and cables protected from hot surfaces. The district was also among the 12 Odisha districts severely damaged by the 1999 Super Cyclone, so the GI mounting structure HELLOCON manufactures is anchored and braced to suit each roof.
Airflow behind the modules
Raised mounting with an open gap so heat can escape from under the array.
Shaded inverter wall
An inverter position on a ventilated wall, away from the afternoon sun.
Protected cable runs
DC and AC cables in conduit, clipped and routed away from hot roof surfaces.

06Questions
Questions about solar pumps and rooftop solar in Dhenkanal
Can HELLOCON supply solar pumps and water kiosks in Dhenkanal?
Yes. HELLOCON supplies solar pumps, dual pumps and solar water kiosks across Dhenkanal district. Each system is sized after a survey of the water source, the depth to water and the daily requirement; our guide for farmers explains what to prepare before the visit.
How far has rooftop solar reached in Dhenkanal?
A Lok Sabha reply reported on 12 August 2026 listed 4,780 PM Surya Ghar installations in Dhenkanal district. In July 2026 TPCODL also sent Odisha’s first Solar Rath awareness vehicle through the district on its route from Bhubaneswar.
Is a raised, ventilated structure really needed on a Dhenkanal roof?
Dhenkanal recorded 48 °C in 2023, and modules lose output as they heat up. A raised GI structure with open space underneath lets air carry heat away from the modules and keeps the roof surface reachable for cleaning and inspection.
