Identify the connection and the intended solar route
Check that the electricity bill names TPWODL and note the consumer reference, category and sanctioned load. The TPWODL website separates PM Surya Ghar, a non-subsidy rooftop route and ULA registration, and provides a net-metering application link. Select the route appropriate to the premises and proposal. A business installation should not be treated as a residential subsidy application merely because both use rooftop panels.
Prepare the information in the published application
TPWODL’s published grid-connected solar application asks for the service connection, proposed capacity, inverter make and type, automatic-isolation protection, generation-meter status and expected commissioning date. Its enclosure list includes an electricity bill, identity proof, proposed layout and supporting checklist. Treat this as a preparation reference; the live workflow may require updated forms. Have the project professional complete technical declarations from the actual design and equipment.
Keep scheme registration and metering coordination connected
For an eligible residential PM Surya Ghar application, start on the official national portal and follow the instructions for TPWODL. Keep references for each required stage and ask how the utility application is linked to the scheme application. The published non-subsidy form does not by itself establish subsidy eligibility. Avoid opening duplicate applications without instructions. Track outstanding requests and agree which documents the installer prepares and which actions belong to the consumer.
Review the proposal against the site
Bring recent bills, roof access details, shading information and any planned load changes to the survey. Ask for a written equipment schedule, layout and installation scope rather than relying on a headline capacity. Clarify metering, utility attendance, any additional electrical or civil work and their treatment in the quotation. Our roof-preparation guide and EPC scope guide help frame these questions. These are planning prompts, not substitute electrical design instructions.
Confirm inspection, meter testing and commissioning
Ask TPWODL which meter arrangement, current specifications and application records apply to the connection. Its website provides meter-testing information alongside the rooftop application route. Confirm responsibilities and charges before procuring a meter. Preserve inspection observations and the final commissioning record. Physical installation, utility acceptance and scheme payment are separate milestones; this guide does not assume identical requirements or completion times across all Odisha utilities.
Read the first bill and organise support
At handover, ask how to view generation and distinguish it from electricity imported from or exported to the grid. Keep equipment warranties, service responsibilities and the utility documents together. Use the official customer-care channel for a billing or metering query, quoting the connection and application references privately. Compare the calculator’s editable energy assumptions with your own circumstances; its illustrative offset is not a prediction of the final utility bill.
Use the current official instructions
The TPWODL website and linked application were checked on 19 October 2026. Follow the current portal and utility instructions if a downloaded form differs from the live process. For another connection, use the separate TPCODL, TPNODL or TPSODL guide. You can discuss a site assessment with HELLOCON without sending bank or identity records through the enquiry form.
This guide explains general system principles. Final technical suitability and scheme eligibility require project-specific review.
