01Similipal district
Rooftop solar and solar street lighting for Baripada and Mayurbhanj
Mayurbhanj is the largest district in Odisha, at 10,418 sq km. The Similipal hills in its centre divide it into eastern and western parts, Khairiburu rises to 1,178 m, and forest covers more than a quarter of the area; Similipal was notified as a national park of 845.70 sq km, Odisha’s largest, in April 2025. Four subdivisions, Baripada, Kaptipada (Udala), Bamanghaty (Rairangpur) and Panchpir (Karanjia), take in 26 blocks and 382 gram panchayats.
Agriculture is the main occupation and paddy dominates. The district also has iron-ore mines at Gorumahisani, Badampahar and Sulaipat, 3,348 MSMEs, 19 tourism centres including Similipal, Khiching and Haripur, and, in Baripada, the Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University and the Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital.
Rooftop solar is moving quickly: TPNODL reported 10,824 installations in Mayurbhanj on 5 September 2026, the second-highest of its five districts. HELLOCON is a registered PM Surya Ghar vendor with TPNODL, and as a manufacturer of solar street lights and poles we also supply the public lighting that panchayats and institutions in the district specify.

What a model solar village tender in Mayurbhanj shows about public lighting
OREDA’s tender for a model solar village in Mayurbhanj, issued in July 2026, sets out the mix: 16 kW of grid-connected rooftop solar on three public buildings, a 5 kW rooftop system with battery backup for a dispensary, 236 solar street lights (216 of 50 W and 20 of 20 W), and four solar high-mast and four mini-mast systems, all with five years of maintenance.
That list is a practical reference for any panchayat, block office or institution in the district planning public lighting. HELLOCON manufactures semi-integrated solar street lights and poles, supplies solar high mast lights and mini masts, and builds battery-backed systems with LiFePO₄ batteries for clinics and community buildings. Each project is designed and quoted to the buyer’s own specification.
04Floods, storms and heat
Solar design for Mayurbhanj’s floods, cyclone winds and Baripada heat
In September 2026 floods affected 20 blocks of Mayurbhanj, plus one municipality and one NAC, and schools closed in seven blocks. The Budhabalanga and Subarnarekha drain the eastern plains, and Cyclone Yaas in May 2021 was forecast to bring winds of about 100 km/h to the district. Heat is the other extreme: Baripada was the hottest place in Odisha at 44.6 °C on 21 April 2024.
A rooftop or ground system here is planned for water first. Inverters, batteries and meter boards go above the highest flood level the site has seen, ground-mounted arrays and pump controllers are raised on GI structures we manufacture, and fixings are chosen for storm winds. For street lighting, pole foundations are set for wet ground along the river plains.
Equipment above flood level
Inverters, batteries and meter boards fixed above the highest water level recorded at the site.
Raised GI structures
Elevated mounting for ground arrays and pump controllers on low-lying plots.
Heat margin in Baripada
Ventilated inverter positions and an air gap under the modules for April temperatures near 45 °C.
05TPNODL connection
Application and metering steps for a TPNODL connection
Check the utility on your electricity bill first; a district name alone does not identify every connection. For a TPNODL household connection, use the national portal together with the utility’s current instructions.
Mayurbhanj forms TPNODL’s Baripada circle, one of the five circles TPNODL took over from NESCO. TPNODL held Seva Setu camps for PM Surya Ghar applicants at Udala, with the District Collector present, in late September 2026, and in Thakurmunda block on 7 October 2026.
- Register the consumer connection on the official PM Surya Ghar portal and follow its application, feasibility and load-related instructions.
- Check the vendor available for that application and agree the equipment, installation and metering responsibilities in writing.
- Complete the required installation records and coordinate the utility’s inspection, meter arrangements and commissioning.
- Retain the commissioning documents and follow the official assistance-claim process. Approval and payment timings depend on the authorities.

07Questions
Questions about solar in Mayurbhanj
Which TPNODL offices cover Mayurbhanj?
Mayurbhanj is TPNODL’s Baripada circle, with electrical divisions at Baripada, Udala and Rairangpur. HELLOCON coordinates PM Surya Ghar applications and net-metering paperwork with TPNODL from our head office in Bhubaneswar; the TPNODL net-metering guide sets out each step.
How many Mayurbhanj households have rooftop solar?
TPNODL reported 10,824 rooftop solar installations in Mayurbhanj on 5 September 2026, second only to Balasore among its five districts. HELLOCON is a registered PM Surya Ghar vendor with TPNODL and surveys homes across all four subdivisions.
Is rooftop solar sensible in Mayurbhanj’s flood-prone blocks?
Yes, with careful siting. After the September 2026 floods affected 20 blocks, our survey records the highest water level at the house and places the inverter, meter board and any battery above it. The rooftop array itself sits clear of floodwater, and ground-mounted systems and pumps go on raised GI structures.
