Start with the TPCODL connection on your bill
Use the distribution company and consumer reference printed on a recent electricity bill. An installer’s office address does not determine which utility handles your rooftop connection. Bring several bills, the sanctioned load and a description of the roof to the survey. For examples of an installed array, see our Cuttack residential project page; the equipment and layout for your own property still need assessment.
Choose the application route for your household
For a residential PM Surya Ghar proposal, begin with the national scheme portal and follow the instructions for the selected connection. The TPCODL website also lists a Solar Rooftop Portal and ULA Solar Registration. Ask which route applies before starting another application. Keep the application reference and follow requests for additional information. An application reference, vendor selection and permission to commission are different stages.
Agree the equipment and utility-coordination scope
Ask the selected vendor to identify the module and inverter models, proposed capacity, roof layout, mounting, protection and work included in the price. Record who prepares utility submissions, attends inspection and supplies the handover documents. Establish whether load-related work, metering charges or other items are included. Use our installer-selection guide to compare written quotations. Do not select capacity only because another home has a 3 kW installation.
Confirm the meter arrangement before buying equipment
TPCODL hosts the OERC solar net-metering SOP dated 23 February 2023. It describes meter provision, testing, inspection and commissioning responsibilities. Use it as a dated reference and obtain the instructions applicable to your present application, including later changes. Confirm the treatment of any existing smart meter, required generation metering and charges with TPCODL. A generic meter shopping list cannot establish the correct arrangement for a particular connection.
Keep installation completion separate from commissioning
Ask for the installation and test records required by the current workflow, together with the equipment schedule and applicable declarations. Arrange the utility inspection and metering stages through the agreed process. The referenced OERC SOP distinguishes energy injected before commissioning from energy eligible for settlement. Have the contractor and utility confirm the permitted connection stage; equipment on the roof alone is not a commissioning record. This guide does not promise an approval or payment date.
Check the first bill and retain the project file
After commissioning, compare the bill’s import and export entries with the applicable utility arrangement and report unexplained differences through the official customer channel. Keep commissioning records, meter details, warranty documents and service contacts together. Household consumption, fixed charges and settlement rules affect the bill; installed capacity does not guarantee a zero balance. The subsidy calculator separates conditional assistance from an illustrative energy offset.
Other Odisha connections and official sources
Follow the DISCOM on the bill. Read the separate TPNODL guide, TPWODL guide or TPSODL guide for their starting points. Official links on this page were checked on 19 October 2026. Confirm the current document list, charges and application status through TPCODL and the scheme portal. Share identity or bank documents only through the appropriate official process, rather than a general website enquiry.
This guide explains general system principles. Final technical suitability and scheme eligibility require project-specific review.
