01Rainfed valleys
Rooftop solar and solar irrigation for Nayagarh’s towns and valleys
Nayagarh district (spelt Nayagada in the Odisha Gazette notice of 22 June 2026) has hill ranges in the west and fertile valleys in the north-east, drained by the Mahanadi, Kusumi, Brutanga and Dahuka. Forests covered about 208,000 ha of its 389,000 ha in the 2012 district profile, and part of the Satkosia Gorge Ramsar site lies on the south bank of the Mahanadi. One subdivision holds eight blocks, four NAC towns (Nayagarh, Daspalla, Khandapada and Ranpur) and 194 gram panchayats.
The economy is agrarian. The district disaster management plan records 133,540 ha of cultivable land but only 54,485 ha irrigated, with paddy on about 101,200 ha and mango, banana and citrus orchards; Nayagarh Kanteimundi Brinjal received a Geographical Indication tag on 2 January 2024. There are no major industries or mining, but the plan lists 3,464 MSME units and 1,247 handloom and handicraft units.
Home rooftop adoption is still at an early stage: a Lok Sabha reply reported on 12 August 2026 listed 2,915 PM Surya Ghar installations in Nayagarh, the lowest among TPCODL’s eight full districts. That leaves room for rooftop systems in the NAC towns and solar pumps in the rainfed valleys, both planned by HELLOCON from our head office in Bhubaneswar.

Solar irrigation, home rooftops and town lighting for Nayagarh
Solar irrigation pumps
With only 54,485 ha of 133,540 ha of cultivable land irrigated, and CEEW counting 6,700 diesel-pump cultivators, 96% of them small and marginal, solar pumping suits Nayagarh’s paddy and orchard plots.Residential rooftop in the four NAC towns

03Forest, rivers and lightning
Planning solar around Nayagarh’s forests, river floods and storms
Nayagarh is inland, with no tsunami exposure, but its disaster management plan records flood exposure along the Mahanadi and its tributaries and heat-wave and lightning incidents between 2018 and 2022. Annual precipitation is about 1,449 mm, and forest edges and orchards put trees close to many homes and fields.
Three checks follow. Shade from trees around the house is measured across the day before the array is laid out. Earthing and surge protection are specified for lightning. Pump controllers and ground arrays near the Mahanadi, Kusumi or Dahuka are placed above known flood levels. HELLOCON’s GI mounting structures can lift arrays clear of shade on low roofs and clear of water on riverside plots.

04Survey planning
What we check at a Nayagarh home or farm before proposing a system
A Nayagarh survey covers a rooftop, a water source or both. For a home, we look at the roof slab, shade, usable area and the route from the panels to the meter; for a farm, at the borewell or dug well, its depth and yield, and the area to be irrigated.
Bring a recent TPCODL bill for a rooftop, or your current pump details for irrigation. Our written proposal then lists the equipment, structure, protection devices and the maintenance responsibilities on each side.

05TPCODL connection
Application and metering steps for a TPCODL connection
Check the utility on your electricity bill first; a district name alone does not identify every connection. For a TPCODL household connection, use the national portal together with the utility’s current instructions.
Nayagarh is served by TPCODL’s Nayagarh Electrical Division under Bhubaneswar Electrical Circle II; rural substations in the district include Odagaon, Itamati and Sarankul.
- Register the consumer connection on the official PM Surya Ghar portal and follow its application, feasibility and load-related instructions.
- Check the vendor available for that application and agree the equipment, installation and metering responsibilities in writing.
- Complete the required installation records and coordinate the utility’s inspection, meter arrangements and commissioning.
- Retain the commissioning documents and follow the official assistance-claim process. Approval and payment timings depend on the authorities.

Is solar irrigation an option for farmers in Nayagarh?
Yes. The district plan records about 133,540 ha of cultivable land but only 54,485 ha irrigated, and CEEW counts about 6,700 cultivators on diesel pumps, with groundwater within safe limits. HELLOCON supplies solar irrigation pumps for this kind of rainfed farmland.
How many homes in Nayagarh have rooftop solar?
A Lok Sabha reply reported on 12 August 2026 listed 2,915 PM Surya Ghar installations in Nayagarh, the lowest among TPCODL’s eight full districts, so adoption here is still early. Households in the NAC towns and villages apply through the same portal and TPCODL process used across central Odisha.
