Identify the connection before planning solar
Check the DISCOM and consumer details on the electricity bill. TPNODL serves northern Odisha, including Jajpur, but a district name should not replace the utility printed on the connection’s bill. Start with household consumption, sanctioned load, roof condition and access. The TPNODL solar FAQ discusses residential eligibility, load and metering. Confirm the current requirements for the particular connection before agreeing the final capacity.
Register and follow the application stage
Use the PM Surya Ghar portal for a residential scheme-linked application. Select the correct state, district and DISCOM and keep a copy of the application reference. Follow the live feasibility or load-related instructions shown for that application. Do not interpret a submitted form as commissioning approval. If additional information or load enhancement is required, agree who handles it and which charges or works are outside the installer’s quotation.
Select a registered vendor and written scope
Verify the legal entity in the current portal selection. Compare the equipment schedule, price, mounting, protection, installation work and utility-coordination responsibilities. Ask who prepares the required records and how the consumer can track progress. A neighbouring 3 kW system is a useful installation example, not the design for every roof. Our Jajpur project guide links eight residential installations with different photographed arrangements.
Prepare installation and inspection records
Keep the actual equipment details and documents requested by the application workflow. Confirm responsibility for installation uploads, applicable declarations, test records and utility coordination. These records must describe the supplied system. A brochure photograph or estimated annual generation does not substitute for the required installation evidence. The household should retain copies of the final equipment schedule and commissioning documents for later service enquiries.
Understand the metering stage
Net metering records imports and exports under the connection’s applicable arrangements. TPNODL’s FAQ discusses net and generation meters and notes that an existing smart meter can affect the metering arrangement. Confirm the selected equipment and process with the utility; do not purchase a meter solely from a generic online checklist. Inspection, metering and commissioning are separate from the installer’s physical completion and follow the utility’s requirements. No fixed completion interval is promised here.
Read the first bill and retain the handover
After the relevant commissioning stage, check how the utility records imports, exports and applicable charges. Solar capacity alone does not guarantee a zero bill. Keep operating instructions, manufacturer warranties, the service agreement and a service contact with the utility records. Assistance and disbursement remain subject to the official scheme process. See the solar EPC scope guide and subsidy calculator to separate project responsibilities from illustrative financial assumptions.
If your bill names another Odisha DISCOM
Use the same connection-first approach and follow that utility’s current instructions. Official starting points are TPCODL, TPWODL and TPSODL. This TPNODL guide does not assert identical meter arrangements, charges or processing stages for all four. Ask for the instructions that apply to the consumer connection rather than substituting an installer’s registration in another district.
This guide explains general system principles. Final technical suitability and scheme eligibility require project-specific review.
