01Deogarh at a glance

Solar lighting, off-grid and rooftop solar for Deogarh

Deogarh (Debagada) is Odisha’s least populous district, with 312,520 people in the 2011 Census, one subdivision and three blocks: Barkote, Reamal and Tileibani. It was created from Sambalpur district on 1 January 1994, and its headquarters town lies about 90 km east of Sambalpur.

Most of the district is hilly and undulating, with the Kaidanta, Khajuria, Pradhanpat, Pawri and Ushakothi ranges, and the Brahmani and its tributaries drain the valleys. Forest land covers 1,301.49 sq km of its 2,781.66 sq km, and farming centres on paddy, followed by pulses and oilseeds.

With settlements small and spread out, solar lighting and off-grid systems are a priority in Deogarh, alongside rooftop systems for homes. Rooftop adoption is at an early stage in the district, and HELLOCON serves it from our head office in Bhubaneswar.

03TPWODL connection

Application and metering steps for a TPWODL connection

Check the utility on your electricity bill first; a district name alone does not identify every connection. For a TPWODL household connection, use the national portal together with the utility’s current instructions.

TPWODLTP Western Odisha Distribution LimitedTPWODL net-metering guide

TPWODL supplies Deogarh through the Deogarh Electrical Division, part of its Sambalpur Circle. Confirm it against your bill before you register on the portal.

  1. Register the consumer connection on the official PM Surya Ghar portal and follow its application, feasibility and load-related instructions.
  2. Check the vendor available for that application and agree the equipment, installation and metering responsibilities in writing.
  3. Complete the required installation records and coordinate the utility’s inspection, meter arrangements and commissioning.
  4. Retain the commissioning documents and follow the official assistance-claim process. Approval and payment timings depend on the authorities.

04Hills and forest

Solar design for Deogarh’s forested hill blocks

Deogarh’s ranges rise to 816 m at Kaidanta, and close to half the district is forest land. CGWB gives a summer mean maximum of 41 °C and an average rainfall of 1,014.2 mm, so a system must cope with hot, dry months and a wet monsoon, often at sites some distance from a main road.

For a hamlet or a forest-edge home, the design starts with what must run after dark and for how long, then sizes the modules and LiFePO₄ storage to suit. Tree shade is mapped across the seasons, and components are chosen so they travel well on rural roads and can be maintained with simple tools.

  • Shade mapping

Tree lines and hill shadows checked so modules see clear sky through the day.

  • Night-load sizing

Storage sized to the lights, fans and devices that must run after sunset.

  • Access-aware equipment

Components selected for transport on village roads and straightforward upkeep.
