01Remote south-west
Grid rooftops in Malkangiri town and off-grid solar for remote villages
Malkangiri is the south-westernmost district of Odisha, formed on 2 October 1992 from part of Koraput. It has one subdivision and seven blocks, including Malkangiri, Mathili, Khairput, Korukonda, Kalimela and Podia (Padia in the Odisha Gazette notice of 22 June 2026). The Balimela Reservoir on the Sileru, a tributary of the Godavari, lies in the district and feeds a 510 MW hydroelectric installation, while a barrage at Surlikonda supplies the Potteru Irrigation Project canals.
The Dandakaranya Project settled refugees from East Pakistan in the area, and agriculture remains the base of the economy. TPSODL runs a dedicated Malkangiri division, with a new division office building and a new Customer Relation Centre, and has publicised network strengthening in what it describes as a tribal-dominated district.
Two kinds of solar fit that picture. In Malkangiri town and the block headquarters, homes on the TPSODL grid can install rooftop systems under PM Surya Ghar. In scattered habitations beyond reliable supply, off-grid and hybrid plants, solar street lights and solar water systems do the work. HELLOCON plans both from our head office in Bhubaneswar.

02Remote, forested habitations
Designing off-grid and rooftop solar for Malkangiri’s remote villages
TPSODL records electrification under the SETU scheme in the district’s Swabhiman Anchal, and many of Malkangiri’s tribal habitations are small and scattered. With a normal annual rainfall of 1,667.6 mm, equipment installed here also has to ride out a long, heavy monsoon.
For such sites the design starts from the daily load: lights, fans, a water pump or the equipment in a community building, and the hours of backup needed after dark. HELLOCON sizes off-grid and hybrid solar plants around LiFePO₄ batteries we manufacture, with housings that keep out rain and insects and a layout local operators can clean and check. Where the grid already reaches, a TPSODL rooftop connection under PM Surya Ghar is usually the simpler route.
Load-first sizing
Battery capacity set by the evening load and the backup hours a household or village actually needs.
Rain-tight housings
Battery and controller enclosures protected for the district’s long monsoon.
Maintenance a village can do
Simple cleaning and inspection routines, with HELLOCON O&M support behind them.

04TPSODL connection
Application and metering steps for a TPSODL connection
Check the utility on your electricity bill first; a district name alone does not identify every connection. For a TPSODL household connection, use the national portal together with the utility’s current instructions.
TPSODL’s RTI manual lists a Malkangiri electrical division under the Jeypore Electrical Circle. In September 2026 TPSODL’s Solar Rath and a street-play campaign took the PM Surya Ghar message to villages and tribal areas in the district.
- Register the consumer connection on the official PM Surya Ghar portal and follow its application, feasibility and load-related instructions.
- Check the vendor available for that application and agree the equipment, installation and metering responsibilities in writing.
- Complete the required installation records and coordinate the utility’s inspection, meter arrangements and commissioning.
- Retain the commissioning documents and follow the official assistance-claim process. Approval and payment timings depend on the authorities.

07Questions
Questions about solar in Malkangiri
Which TPSODL office handles rooftop solar in Malkangiri?
Malkangiri is in TPSODL’s licence area, with its own division under the Jeypore Electrical Circle and a Customer Relation Centre in the district. HELLOCON is a registered PM Surya Ghar vendor with TPSODL; our TPSODL net-metering guide covers the grid-connected route.
What solar options suit Malkangiri villages without reliable supply?
Off-grid or hybrid plants with battery storage are the usual choice, sized to the evening load and the backup hours. HELLOCON builds them around the LiFePO₄ batteries we manufacture, and also supplies solar street lights, high mast and mini mast lighting, solar water kiosks and solar pumps.
How many Malkangiri homes have rooftop solar so far?
TPSODL figures reported on 11 August 2026 put Malkangiri at 714 rooftop installations. Homes in Malkangiri town, Mathili, Kalimela and the other block headquarters apply through the PM Surya Ghar portal, and our team plans each survey visit from Bhubaneswar.
