01Maize plateau
Rooftop solar and solar pumps for Nabarangpur, Umerkote and the maize blocks
Nabarangpur, carved out of Koraput on 2 October 1992, is a relatively flat, forested plateau: thick forest in the north and east, low hills in the west, the Indravati plains along much of the southern border with Koraput, and the Eastern Ghats at its eastern edge near Rayagada. Umerkote (Umarkot in the Odisha Gazette notice of 22 June 2026), in the north, borders Chhattisgarh. The district has ten blocks: Nabarangpur, Nandahandi, Tentulikhunti, Papadahandi, Kosagumuda, Dabugam, Jharigam, Chandahandi, Umerkote and Raighar.
Nabarangpur is described as Odisha’s largest maize producer, with Papadahandi, Umerkote and Kosagumuda as the main maize blocks; millets, sugarcane and cashew are also grown. Umerkote is a post-monsoon transport hub for maize, with trade in fertiliser, pesticides, garments and retail. Most residents depend on agriculture, and Scheduled Tribes make up 55.79% of the population.
Utility-led adoption has been strong. In TPSODL’s Month of Solar in May 2026, Nabarangpur recorded 2,989 applications under the Utility-Led Aggregation model, the second-highest in TPSODL’s area, and TPSODL figures show 1,328 rooftop installations by 11 August 2026. HELLOCON is a registered PM Surya Ghar vendor with TPSODL and plans surveys here from our head office in Bhubaneswar.

03TPSODL connection
Application and metering steps for a TPSODL connection
Check the utility on your electricity bill first; a district name alone does not identify every connection. For a TPSODL household connection, use the national portal together with the utility’s current instructions.
TPSODL’s RTI manual lists a Nabarangpur electrical division under the Jeypore Electrical Circle, and TPSODL has opened a Customer Relation Centre at Umerkote.
- Register the consumer connection on the official PM Surya Ghar portal and follow its application, feasibility and load-related instructions.
- Check the vendor available for that application and agree the equipment, installation and metering responsibilities in writing.
- Complete the required installation records and coordinate the utility’s inspection, meter arrangements and commissioning.
- Retain the commissioning documents and follow the official assistance-claim process. Approval and payment timings depend on the authorities.
04Summer heat on the plateau
Solar pumps and rooftops for Nabarangpur’s hot summers
Wikipedia gives Nabarangpur an average summer temperature of about 40 °C, and the Odisha Reference Annual a normal annual rainfall of 1,569.5 mm. The district lies inland, well away from the coastal cyclone belt, so heat and the dry-season water supply are the main design questions.
Heat affects pumps and rooftops alike. A solar pump’s output follows the sunlight, so the array is sized for the water needed in the hottest, driest weeks and the controller is mounted in shade. On rooftops in Nabarangpur and Umerkote, modules get an air gap for cooling and the inverter a ventilated position. HELLOCON’s GI mounting structures are made for both rooftop and ground-mounted pump arrays.
