01Steel city and hill blocks

Rooftop and industrial solar for Sundargarh, Rourkela and Rajgangpur

Sundargarh (Sundaragada in the Odisha Gazette notice of 22 June 2026) is Odisha’s second-largest district, at 9,712 sq km: hilly and high, with narrow valleys, where the Sankh and Koel meet at Vedavyas near Rourkela to form the Brahmani and the Ib drains the west. Three subdivisions, Sundargarh, Panposh and Bonaigarh, cover 17 blocks, and Scheduled Tribes made up 50.75% of the population in 2011.

Rourkela, the district’s largest city and Odisha’s third-largest, grew around the Rourkela Steel Plant, inaugurated on 3 February 1959 under Hindustan Steel Limited and now part of SAIL, and was selected under the Smart Cities Mission in September 2016; NIT Rourkela is an Institute of National Importance. Other industry includes the cement plant at Rajgangpur, the L&T fabrication plant at Kansbahal and the Kalunga Industrial Estate, with limestone and dolomite in the Nuagaon, Kuarmunda and Rajgangpur blocks. Away from the towns, paddy is the principal crop and irrigation covers only about 12.6% of net sown area.

TPWODL’s district-wise figures published on 2 September 2026 show 7,856 rooftop solar installations in Sundargarh district. HELLOCON, a registered PM Surya Ghar vendor with TPWODL, plans rooftop systems for homes and institutions, solar plants for industry and solar pumps for farms across the district from our head office in Bhubaneswar.

02Industrial belt

Solar engineering for Rourkela’s industrial belt and Sundargarh’s heat

Around Rourkela, Rajgangpur and Kansbahal, rooftops sit beside steel, cement and fabrication works, and TPWODL reports more than 100 circuit km of dedicated 33 kV industrial feeders in the Rourkela, Sundargarh and Rajgangpur area. The CGWB summary gives temperatures from about 6 °C to 48 °C; Sundargarh town recorded 44 °C on 30 April 2022, and Sundargarh and Rourkela were among the towns at 40 °C or above on 24 May 2026.

For an industrial or commercial roof, that means a structural check of the sheet and purlins, a cleaning schedule matched to dust from nearby works, and protection and metering designed with the plant’s electrical team. For homes and institutions, it means heat-aware layouts and access for regular module washing. HELLOCON manufactures GI mounting structures for sheet, RCC and ground installations and delivers commercial and industrial solar as EPC with O&M.

  • Roof structure check

Sheet, purlin and fixing survey before an industrial or warehouse roof takes the array.

  • Cleaning schedule

Module washing intervals set by dust from nearby works and the dry months.

  • Protection and metering

Switchgear, earthing and metering designed with the site’s electrical team.

04TPWODL connection

Application and metering steps for a TPWODL connection

Check the utility on your electricity bill first; a district name alone does not identify every connection. For a TPWODL household connection, use the national portal together with the utility’s current instructions.
