01Gajapati at a glance
Rooftop, off-grid and solar lighting for Gajapati and Paralakhemundi
Gajapati sits in the Eastern Ghats on Odisha’s border with Andhra Pradesh, a district of rugged terrain and narrow valleys rising to 1,501 m at Mahendragiri (Wikipedia). The Mahendratanaya runs 72 km through it to join the Vansadhara. Formed from Ganjam in 1992, it has one subdivision, seven blocks, 149 gram panchayats and 1,534 revenue villages, with Paralakhemundi as its headquarters.
Forests cover about 57% of the land and hill villages are scattered, while agriculture supports about 65% of the population, with paddy, sugarcane, maize and tobacco grown around Paralakhemundi. The town is home to the Gajapati Palace and to Centurion University, which grew out of an institute founded there in 1997.
Rooftop solar is gaining ground, and Gajapati stands second only to Ganjam among TPSODL’s districts. HELLOCON plans systems for homes, institutions and panchayat lighting across Gajapati from our head office in Bhubaneswar.

02Wind and hills
Rooftop structures for Gajapati’s Titli-hit hills
Cyclone Titli in October 2018 hit Gajapati harder than any other Odisha district, according to the Special Relief Commissioner. Uprooted trees cut the roads from Paralakhemundi to Kashinagar, Mohana and Gosani, many thatched and asbestos-roofed houses were destroyed, and the swollen Mahendratanaya then submerged large parts of the district.
A Gajapati rooftop system is therefore planned for wind exposure roof by roof. The GI structure HELLOCON manufactures is fixed into the slab and braced, module rows are kept low where the roof is exposed, and the survey checks the hill roads for delivery and later maintenance.
Anchored, braced structure
GI members fixed into the slab and braced to suit each exposed roof.
Low-profile rows
Module tilt and height kept modest on windward roofs and hilltops.
Hill-road logistics
Delivery and service routes checked for Mohana, R. Udayagiri and Gumma sites.
03TPSODL connection
Application and metering steps for a TPSODL connection
Check the utility on your electricity bill first; a district name alone does not identify every connection. For a TPSODL household connection, use the national portal together with the utility’s current instructions.
TPSODL’s RTI manual lists a Paralakhemundi division (PKED) under its Rayagada Electrical Circle for Gajapati. Confirm the division on your bill before applying.
- Register the consumer connection on the official PM Surya Ghar portal and follow its application, feasibility and load-related instructions.
- Check the vendor available for that application and agree the equipment, installation and metering responsibilities in writing.
- Complete the required installation records and coordinate the utility’s inspection, meter arrangements and commissioning.
- Retain the commissioning documents and follow the official assistance-claim process. Approval and payment timings depend on the authorities.

06Questions
Questions about rooftop and off-grid solar in Gajapati
Is rooftop solar sensible in a district Cyclone Titli hit so hard?
Yes, when the structure is planned for wind. HELLOCON fixes its own GI structures into the slab, braces them for each Gajapati roof and keeps rows low on exposed sites. A pre-monsoon check of clamps and cables is advisable.
Can scattered hill villages in Gajapati use off-grid solar?
Yes. Where the grid is weak or distant, an off-grid or hybrid system with LiFePO₄ batteries can supply lights, fans and essential devices. HELLOCON sizes each Gajapati system from the loads that must run after dark.
How is rooftop solar spreading in Gajapati?
TPSODL figures reported on 11 August 2026 showed 1,492 rooftop installations in Gajapati, and on 29 September 2026 OdishaBytes reported that TPSODL’s Solar Rath had set out from the Paralakhemundi Collectorate to tour all seven blocks.
